Stopping the Big Green Gathering is like trying to stop the tide…

The Spirit of Freedom is haunting Babylon

The powers that be are afraid, very afraid. They do not want 1,000s of like-minded people to come together to discuss how they will free themselves from the Babylonian system of debt and slavery. The authorities can see that people are waking up, dropping out and tuning in. Or at the very least questioning the lawful basis of the finance and legal systems. Using their laws to undermine this year’s The Big Green Gathering shows just how desperate they are. They authorities just couldn’t allow masses of people to get together to celebrate and empower themselves.

Following a threat to take out a High Court injunction on the part of Mendip District Council — supported by Somerset Avon Police, and after taking advice from an eminent QC — the directors of the Big Green Gathering claim they ‘have been left with no other option than to voluntarily surrender the license for the Big Green Gathering 2009′. They are now requesting that ‘no one intending to attend the event should attempt to do so, as the site is now closed and they are likely to be turned away by Somerset Police. It is our intention to avoid any form of confrontation or public disorder in regard to this.’

Simply because the Directors were ‘threatened’ with legal action, they decided to ‘voluntarily surrender’ the licence!

This is one of the most — if not THE MOST — important cultural and social event in our calendar, taking place over the ancient pagan festival of Lamass on the 1st August, yet the corporate directors of the BGG have thrown in the towel with a simple threat of legal action. No offence to the festival directors – but where are your balls? You’ve taken advice from lawyers in the pay of Babylon then just given up the fight before it’s even begun…

When you think of what has been done over the centuries to bravely stand up to oppression, you wonder why these directors are not inspired enough by their project to at least fight it out in a court of law. You wonder how they became such a bunch of pussies.

Under the Common Law, the ‘powers-that-be’ have no right to prevent people from peaceably gathering at a festival, even if the high court had granted an injunction. This episode has simply served as a reminder that jumping through hoops and waiting to be given permission from corporations to do what is necessary is pointless. Our governers do not seem to understand what is truly best for us! We DO NOT NEED PERMISSION to meet and celebrate life together – and we simply must be able to gather in order to make the most of our resources, to help and heal one another – and start co-creating a more positive and sustainable future for us and all of our brothers and sisters.

The directors have consented to the festival being banned without any legal or lawful reason, perhaps because they realised how little profit would be in it for them, hopefully for more ethical reasons. But why should the punters who want to celebrate life, freedom and harmony with nature have to abide by this nonsensical decision?

Even if the official BGG is dead and the directors are ‘in bed with Babylon’, that shouldn’t stop those who truly embody the spirit of freedom from still gathering. But where? Well, we’re heading down to Somerset on Tuesday 28 July to meet like-minded souls gathering evidence, opinions and analysis for our forthcoming documentary about our unlawful eviction from Tyting Farm near Guildford.

A version was meant to be shown at the BGG. It is to be shown anyway on the 9th August at our Farm in Abinger Hammer, when we’ll also be discussing taking back to our rightful home at Tyting.

If anybody else is heading down to Somerset and would like to meet with us please get in touch (our contact details are on the website). Have a great week!

    Big Green Gathering Shut Down

“It’s political” Chief Superintendent tells BGG Director

Chief Superintendent Paul Richards admitted to a Big Green Gathering Director that the decision to shut down the Big Green Gathering was political and confirmed to the Chair of the Big Green Gathering that orders had come from the highest level.

During a meeting today between the police and directors of the Big Green Gathering, the superintendent said the decision to shut down the BGG was taken over a week ago, confirming the statement from the BGG lawyer that the ‘injunction was a red herring.’

Directors from the BGG are horrified at this partisan interpretation of licencing law. Big Green Gathering Chair Brig Oubridge said, “At the multi-agency meeting on Thursday 23rd July, we were still negotiating with the police and the council under the genuine belief that things were progressing and we were continuing to spend money on infrastructure, wages and security. If they knew they were going to cancel the event, we can only conclude that this drive to increase expenditure appears to be a deliberate attempt to bankrupt the Big Green Gathering.

The injunction served on the Big Green Gathering was primarily addressing the fact that the Big Green Gathering did not obtain the necessary road closure despite the fact that the Highways Agency had previously indicated that this would be done.

The Big Green Gathering has been running an event since 1994 and never before has public safety been an issue. The BGG has an exemplary record on health and safety and crime levels have always been low for the number of people on site.

Despite the concerns over the behaviour of the Council and the Police, event organisers will work with them to ensure the safety of those at the premises and ensure that they leave the land in an orderly fashion. Brig concluded, “We are very aware of our responsibilities to those already on the site and very sad for all those who were coming to enjoy one of the most peaceful festivals in the UK.”

  • its a real shame the Big Green isnt going ahead seein as its concept is the future.
i am puttin on a free festival in bristol on sept 6th i have run it for 6yrs and it is a labour of love – “the st.georges ghetto fun jam hippy festival”- live music, healing area, skateboard and bmx comps in the skatepark i helped save from demolition in 2005 (and i raised 40,000 to build new ramps there). usually we have around 2000 peeps and it is just a one day event to inspire the masses that i make happen courtesy of a lot of amazin people that help out. so there is an open invite to anyone to get involved and this aint gettin no court injunction i dont back down and i actually got support from the police. big love to all ya peeps tryin to make a difference. and check bodyenglish.co.uk to see pics from previous years x craig

  • Brianne says:

Please stop using the term ‘whore of Babylon’ pejoratively as it is based on a misinterpretation and misrepresentation and twisting of sacred ‘prostitution’ and you are perpetuating the ‘myth’ of prostitutes as ‘evil’:

“Inanna was the goddess of many things, including shepherds,
carpenters, love, sex, and the sacred temple lovers. Her priestesses
kept a sacred institution, a ritual dramatisation of the value of sexual love, and in some temples even respectable married laywomen would make love to strangers who approached in the darkness and left a coin.

This is called ‘sacred prostitution’ in modern terminology, but the term is a poor one, because of what prostitution means to us. Back in the day, these women were religious temple attendants performing a vital service for the community, a role that is performed today with muchless ceremony in scummy motels and backstreets. The Har of Babylon, as she was titled, is remembered in The Bible as the Whore of Babylon.

She was one of many virgin mothers who bore dying solar heroes on the solstice as Virgo popped over the horizon, but whilst the saviour mythology survives (Jesus), most of his mother’s nature has been forgotten.”

    • Blue Eagle says:

I’m sorry Brianne.. thank you for pointing that out. I think David was using the phrase figuratively , but I have amended the article… So it seems the prostitution ‘laws’ should be another aspect of our legal system that needs looking at…

So we are ‘radicals’? Perhaps, but at least we are radical for the right reasons…!

I am very sad and angered at the BGG being stopped this yr and maybe subsequent yrs who knows! It is a terrible thing the powers that be have done, yet I feel it is time some of us were awoken more, were looking at what we are doing and not be too complacent. It isnt as cut n dried as them just handing in the towel without a fight, as that was too my first thought. Allegedly the “them” were putting forward 2 named individuals from the share holders to take the fall if the BGG lost on monday in the high court and also the farmer whose land it was going to be on! They had them tied in red tape that they flung on them at the last moment! All things happen for a reason and I believe that its time now to show the “them” that they have gone too far! We all have to stand and be counted… I am avidly watching what u guys are doing about Tyting Farm too. I am inspired by what you are all doing. Well done, You are winning!

  • the police take a “vow of office” to “Protect Life and Property, and to Uphold the Law”

both the most serious threat to Life and Property, and the most serious breach of the Law, are due to Environmental Damage and Destruction (AGGRAVATED CRIMINAL DAMAGE _ see http://www.ecotort.gn.apc.org and scroll down).

therefore, proffesdsionally speaking, every polioce officer SHOULD BE A COMMITTED ECO_ACTIVIST,

  • Nelson Buchanan says:

You can call me paranoid and you could be right but this is my theory anyway about the state of this country. Do you remember Al Fayed? Princess Diana’s dead boyfriend’s father well I remember him once saying that the Prince Philip ( the Queen’s husband ) is a part of a fascist group that is running the Uk. well I think this is true and they are people who are behind this kind of oppression. We are living in a fascist country it maybe be a subtle form of fascism but it is fascist all the same. For example people keep saying over and over again ‘we’re living in a police state etc etc’ but who is behind it? Who’s making the decisions? That is the question ‘who has the hidden hand?’ I don’t believe the royal family is some kind of benign organisation either. They have an entire military regiment that’s sole purpose is to guard them so if there was a revolution do you think they would hesitate for one moment to turn their guns on the people? Wake up England’s dreaming…

    • Blue Eagle says:

      Hi Nelson,

We give consent to their laws – that is how we are ‘manipulated’. We don’t even realise we’re consenting to it as very often, just admitting that you are the person that they are trying to prosecute is enough for them to get a conviction. In other words, you can escape the oppression once you realise statute law works like business – they are simply contracts that you can choose to partake in. A lot of Statute law is worth less than the paper it is printed on- once you realise it demands the consent of both the governers and the governed. We shouldn’t fear these ‘fascists’ – we should just show them a better way, otherwise ignore them. The reason these corporations (inc goverments, police, etc) have so much power us is because we 1.consent to their laws, and we 2.rely on them for our food and energy. 3.They ’steal’ all our time. 4. We continue to support the economic system that creates and funds this ‘oppression’. We are forced to live this way because of the unfair wealth distribution a system of this nature generates.

So we must simply stop consenting to nonsensical or even barbaric laws, stop paying into the unsustainable and unfair banking system and empower ourselves with the knowledge we need to create a sustainable future for all. :0

What sort of future do you want to see? I wouldn’t let anybody distract me from my aims, no matter how big and scary I may imagine them to be. The future is bright.
