Stopping the BGG is like trying to stop the Tide – Part 2…

Apologies to all of those who have put their time, energy and love into this great event, only to be let down by the ‘higher authority’.  “During a meeting today between the police and directors of the Big Green Gathering, the superintendent said the decision to shut down the BGG was taken over a week ago…” The original press release about the injunction was a ‘red-herring’. There was never any chance that our governers would have allowed the festival to continue.

So why did the Police feel the need to take this action against such a green, peaceful, family orientated festival?  Climate Camp have organised a march nearby around the time of the festival and Police were concerned that festival-goers would contribute considerably to their numbers. But is this really a good enough excuse to cancel such a positive and healing event?

They also had concerns over The BGG being a ‘gathering ground for radicals’. Well, that may be true – but being radically opposed to oppression and inequality is a good thing, isn’t it?  What about the radical action of the ‘powers that be’ – they have stopped one of the main cultural events of the year, causing loss to many people and with relation to the nature of the festivals aims, threatening our environment in the longer term

This is abhorrant action, which should not be accepted. This is another shining example of how certain public organisations are no longer working in the interests of its people – and we must continue to highlight this.

I suppose our saving grace is that it is so easy for us to continue to gather and meet as we can simply go elsewhere – any field will do. We don’t need to plan for months to be able to gather in a field and enjoy life and liberty.

So lets celebrate! We’re heading west to enjoy Lamass with our brothers and sisters – if you want to join us then get in touch!

Love, Light and Laughter
