Our Vision for Tyting

tyting_plant2Core Development Areas

For clarity we have split the land area into 4 main areas which list the diversification proposals in the short and long term. These are:

  • General
  • Grazing Land
  • The Farm House
  • The Farm Outbuildings

Listed are the possible services and revenue streams that will enable the farm to sustain itself, create equal opportunities and improve the quality of life of all of those involved. These services are all stated as part of the Guildford Community Strategy, Guildford Sustainability Strategy and the Tyting Farm Lease Criteria.

Grazing Land

Depleted of nutrients after years of monoculture, this land will be transformed back to fertility by introducing a greater bio-diversity through Permaculture and Forest Gardening techniques. Workshops and community projects will enable the entire community to get involved and learn vital skills that will take us closer to a sustainable future.

The varying slopes and soil types on site provide a great opportunity for a wide range of different techniques to be employed, creating an ideal site for an educational facility and showcase. The plots to the east of the site would make an ideal healing space for retreats, rehabilitation projects and nature walks.

Short Term (Immediate)

  • Guided nature walks
  • School/University Sustainability Project space
  • Open access Permaculture space
  • WWOOFing (Willing workers on organic farms) worker placements

Workshops In…

… Sustainable living: Green energy generation, waste management, eco-home building (i.e.‘Guildford Earthship’ etc.

… Health and Well-being practices: Nutrition, Meditation, Yoga etc.

Farm House

Currently the house is in major need of refurbishment. In accordance with the Guildford Sustainable Community Strategy released in March 2009, we will transform a derelict and energetically inefficient home into a state of the art eco-home.

This will become an exemplary template for the rest of the Borough to inspire others to upgrade their homes energy efficiency.

Short term (Immediate)

  • Building workshops (Plumbing, bricklaying, glazing, guttering, painting and decorating, plastering, Tiling)
  • Renewable energy consultancy and showcasing

Longer term

  • Sell electricity back to Grid
  • Bed and Breakfast facilities

Outbuildings

Disrepair has been identified on all of the outbuildings. Our solution is to provide a localised skill sharing network capable of renovating the buildings through free labour therefore reducing our outgoings to the costs of materials.

Although once these outbuildings were used to hold and tend to cattle, we believe they would make ideal communal spaces for a wide range of activities. After reparations have been made we will diversify their use for the following:

Short Term (Immediate)

  • Workshops (Arts and crafts. Metal and woodwork)
  • Recycling facilities
  • Arts Gallery

Longer Term

  • Café/Restaurant
  • 12v Recording Studio
  • Bunk barn
  • Farm shop
  • Theatre

Hi, all I can say is well done. It is so lovely to see this website. I have always be conscious and aware from an early age about our world around us and what we should be doing, together. The difference between talkers (who only ever do just that), and the doers! In the past 2 yrs of attending and working festivals I have have been pleasantly surprised to find so many like minded individuals with a multitude of talents, ideas and ideals. It is heartwarming and gives hope and a brighter future…
There is a real strength behind people when you begin to realise one voice can be heard, and so together it resonates further than you can imagine. I am a single mum, self employed, I am an artist and performer, play guitar, hand drums and sing..I teach, I am creative, and love to learn… I am very interested to be involved if there are things I can do … I have tons of experience with people of all ages, also a bit with funding, and some good contacts…I hope to hear from you, Well done to you all it is brilliant!!

      Hi Kerry!

Thankyou so much for you’re comment – its nice to know that our message is getting out there and people can begin to see the positive futures that are possible for us…

As soon as we realise just how easy it is to get out of this mess, we’ll see change happen very rapidly… trust.

We need people, resources, and money… If you can help on any of those fronts then please feel free to represent, and spread the word… :D

Also, if you see any good opportunities in your area for a project of this nature – let people know about it!!

Thanks again, have a lovely day,
      Chris (and the rest) x
