Letter to the National Trust (RE:Hackhurst Farm)
Hackhurst Farm,
Hackhurst Lane,
Abinger,
RH5 6PZ
Dear Friend,
We are ‘The Tyting Community Project’. We have been caretaking the house and land of Hackhurst Farm, Abinger since June 25th 2009, after being unlawfully assaulted and forcibly removed from our home at Tyting Farm, Guildford. We would like to reassure all members of the national trust that we are taking good care of the building and that we did not force any entry but went in an open window . We are landless people looking to take care of our needs by using some land to grow food. We have by circumstance been homeless and are looking for a place to begin our lives again by starting with what we need in order to take care of ourselves and survive. we need land. We wish no harm and are peacefull people with sound intention. We have recognised our earth as sacred and we need to reestablish a good relationship with it. We have a permaculture student and woodland management skills including charcoal burning in our skills base. All we need is the land and an opportunity to live in a small communtity and work it taking into account the needs of the local flora and fauna. We also have many years of building skills and can offer work in return for our having been here. We are happy to renovate in exchange for some land long term. Wemoved here out of need in order to highlight that some one has to lead forward the change so we can get back to whats real and sort out our environmental problems before its to late. We did this now because some of us lost our homes anyway due to debt. We have this forced upon us by the current system which is to slow to respond to our growing crisis. We mean no offence and we apologise for any caused but the earth needs us now. right now.
We are currently using the building for much needed office space for our project (see http://www.tytingfarmcommunity.org.uk), as well as useful workshop space for arts and crafts, healing and community meetings. We have taken time to clean the farmhouse and outbuildings, often inviting ‘passer-by’s in for tea and biscuits, talk to them about our goals and listen to their views.
- Our doors are open to everybody, whom we welcome with open arms and open hearts. We provide a loving, peaceful environment for all of our guests and treat them with respect. Activities that allow them to express their creativity and allow them to re-connect with nature are more easily accessible than in their normal day-to-day lives.
- Water, Food, Shelter and energy are our four basic needs. These are not hard to come by, if you cut out the middle man. By living communally and recycling efficiently we can provide these resources collectively and easily. This allows more time in the day for contemplation – for relaxation, creative expression, and healing.
- Our fifth and greatest need is spiritual sustenance. As a human being with higher consciousness, we crave more than the basic needs of animal survival. Debating the basic questions we all ask about life with those who are interested provides them with spiritual guidance as well as practical advice.
- We simply do not need so much stuff! We share our possessions. It’s fairer that way, it means everybody has everything they need and also helps to lessen our attachment to material possessions. It is the isolation bestowed upon us by our ‘need’ for material things that makes our lives so difficult. We spend a lot of our time and energy gathering money to pay for our shelter, food and clothing- when we could be growing it and creating it …together!
The reaction we have had from people has been wholly positive and everybody seems to agree that certain things needs to change if we are to exist peacefully together as a race – a lot of people would like to get involved in such a project… but most have fear of losing their homes, or even their families. We aim to re-assure them that there is nothing to fear by making a stand against an inherently unsustainable and corrupt banking system…
- “We are explaining to people that they need not pay their mortgage, or taxes as they are unlawful contracts! They based on usury* and therefore completely unfair. Their money and time would be much better spent investing in local food and energy systems, rather than paying off interest on a false, or imaginary debt.
- We are showing people that by working co-operatively to pool the resources we already have (in abundance), we can end all poverty and cut down considerably on our energy consumption – creating a healthier, happy future for our children.
*Usury is the term to describe the process of charging interest on a debt. Essentially it means money can be created with nothing physical to back it up (as Gold once did). Money can be created out of thin air – and is all the time. Wiki ‘Fractional Reserve Banking’.
We are also teaching people vital skills relating to Nutrition, Permaculture*, Craftwork, Communication, Cooking, Cleaning, Meditation, Yoga, Massage… as you can see these are all healing exercises that help to empower people. We believe all of these skills should form the basis of our education – these are the priorities…
- By providing a healthy, nutritious diet and a break from the stresses and strains of our modern, consumerist lives and particularly the mass-media, we can slowly ‘de-condition’ ourselves and learn to see things for how they really are – break free from the world of fantasy.
- By living in reality (the ‘Here’ and ‘Now’), we automatically become more of a healing presence. We are more conscious of our actions and how they affect others, as we are more aware of our environment.
*Permaculture is a modern agricultural technique that has a much higher crop yield than conventional farming methods. It can be implemented within our towns and cities.
Current impediments to our progress…
Our current national education system is improving, albeit slowly, but for now it seems the ‘powers-that-be’ do not want our children to be self-sufficient- we currently create a nation of dependents, when what we need are people that are dependable.
The current economic system we use is at the heart of the poverty, famine, war and inequality in the world. Watch the film Zeitgeist Addendum at http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com and will you understand just how unfair it really is, how unsustainable it is, and ultimately …that we should stop supporting it immediately.
The over stimulation of our minds through a rich diet and an overload of useless, mind-numbing information helps to distract us from the real priorities in our lives. Our lives are overcomplicated to such an extent that half the population of America is on anti-depressants, and we wilfully allow war, torture, famine and homelessness exist in the ‘civilised world’.
Any sane human being immediately recognises the backwardness of our current legal and economic situation, but a lot of people don’t have the time or inclination to be able to focus on these vital issues.
Both Hackhurst Farm and Tyting Farm are ideal places for people to heal, the most important aspect of all of our projects. The peaceful setting, deep into the Surrey Hills provides a great escape from the high-stress lifestyle that has been handed down to us …and that is causing the environment and ourselves great harm.
- We are providing ourselves with more to spend with close friends or loved ones, and to truly enjoy this life …and our liberty.
- We aim to show people how easy it is for us to transgress into a fairer, more co-operative and ecologically-sustainable society and that now is the time. We can no longer wait for other people to sort our problems out for us. We are the ones we have been waiting for…
Do you understand that what we are trying to do is in fact, beneficial to all of us, including yourself? Can YOU help us to succeed? Do YOU want us to succeed? If you decide to help us, then collectively we could make the best possible use of the resources available. Together, we are stronger.
If you would like to come to talk with us, at anytime, please contact us through the website or via email (tytingfarmcommunity@gmail.com). We can all work together for a brighter future – starting now?
Love and light,
The Tyting Farm Community
